The Operation of Ecouvillon

The largest military operation in West Africa, which was done in 1958 by France and Spain, in order to crush the resistance in the Sahara. This military operation was known as Ecouvillon or Ouragan, or « the year of the bombing of airplanes » as sahara people say.

This historical documentary narrates, through historical photographs presented for the first time and testimonies of men who lived through the event and academic researchers, the stages of this important event in the contemporary history of the Sahara. It documents a painful collective memory and forgotten black pages of colonial history.
